Why is the Adjunct called "the Adjunct"? Well, according to Dictionary:adjunct, we get:

  Adjunct \Ad"junct`\, n.
     1. Something joined or added to another thing, but not
        essentially a part of it.
        [1913 Webster]

Learning is but an adjunct to our self. --Shak.
        [1913 Webster]

     2. A person joined to another in some duty or service; a
        colleague; an associate. --Wotton.
        [1913 Webster]

     3. (Gram.) A word or words added to qualify or amplify the
force of other words; as, the History of the American
Revolution, where the words in italics are the adjunct or
        adjuncts of "History."
        [1913 Webster]

The Adjunct is joined to WardsWiki, but not essentially a part of it; it is that site's associate. It is also joined in some duty or service, namely, to provide a home for material that is OffTopic there; and it hopes to amplify the force of other words by being a space for wider context.
