A cartoon animation provided by FoxNetwork?.
BartSimpson used to be "in", but HomerSimpson has shown the most staying power over the years. For the world's greatest anti-genius, he's subtly hard to predict...
A show ridiculed by many as destroying family values. The truth of course is somewhat more complex.
While many of the characters have awful flaws (especially Bart), this family has stayed together for many years.
Many people complain that the show shortchanges fathers. And yet Homer always manages to pull through, despite all his character flaws, when the family needs him.
They go to church every Sunday. Some people say that is a good thing. Others say that it is hypocritical. (I've heard it claimed that TheSimpsons "puts the fun back into fundamentalism", by someone who apparently isn't a fan of either... :-) - but apparently not averse to stealing their jokes. ;) One might say that there's some hypocrisy even in saying it is.
TheSimpsons, being a cartoon, has a cast of literally hundreds. This is one reason it manages to provide some of the sharpest satire of modern life available anywhere.
TheSimpsons manages to make fun of everyone pretty evenly, so at least you can't really complain that it is unfair. More than that, TheSimpsons makes fun of itself, its parent network (Fox), television, and our media-saturated age in general.
The Simpsons was the target of a banning attempt in Russia as a "cult of cruelty and violence." And well, it is. American media is some of the most violent on Earth, surpassed only by Japan's; the result of official sexual repression coupled to VideoAddiction. The Simpsons is pretty typical of American media violence.
